Hearst Castle Earns National
Honor
San
Simeon, CA - Hearst Castle has been awarded the highest honor
a museum can receive: accreditation by the American Association
of Museums. Accreditation certifies that a museum operates according
to standards set forth by the museum profession, manages its
collections responsibly and provides quality service to the
public. Of the 8,000 museums nationwide, only some 750 are accredited.
"We hope the people of San Luis Obispo county share our pride
in having earned this prestigious honor" stated Kirk Sturm,
Museum Director-Superintendent of Hearst Castle. "This process
was rigorous and demanding, as we examined virtually every aspect
of our museum's operations; a year of self-study and on on-site
review by a team of experienced museum professionals was required.
We hope everyone in our community will help us celebrate this
award by visiting Hearst Castle and exploring its fine programs
and exhibits."
Hearst Castle is located at 750 Hearst Castle Road, San Simeon,
and is open daily for public tours which start at 8:20 a.m.
The last tour of the day starts at 3:20 p.m., sometimes later
during the summer.
